Myths Related To Blu-Rays Busted

Blu-ray disc, which is also known as BD or blu-ray, is a format for storing optical disc media. It is generally used for high-definition video storage and data storage. This disc looks like any ordinary disc and has the same dimensions.

The name of blu-ray Disc comes from the blue laser that is used for reading and writing this type of disc. It is a combination of the word "blue" that stands for blue-violet laser and `ray` standing for optical ray.

Since it has shorter wavelength of around 405 nm, so it can store substantially more data than a DVD that uses a red or 650 nm laser. To give you more details, a dual layer blu-ray disc has the capacity to store 50 GB, which is almost six times of the capacity of similar dual layer DVD.

The blu-ray Disc was invented by the Blu-ray Disc Association. It is a group of companies that represent computer hardware, consumer electronics, and are also involved in motion picture production. There are more than 180 member companies in this association, from all over the world. The current board of directors consists of companies like Apple Computer, Inc., Warner Bros. Entertainment, Dell Inc., Thomson Multimedia, Hewlett Packard Company, Sharp Corporation, Hitachi, Ltd., Twentieth Century Fox, LG Electronics Inc, Sony Corporation, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Sun Microsystems, Inc Ltd, TDK Corporation, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Pioneer Corporation, Royal Philips Electronics, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Walt Disney Pictures.

There was a time when blu-ray disc was competing with the HD DVD format, but soon most of the leading companies announced that they could no longer find buyers for their HD DVD players and recorders. Hence blu-ray emerged as the clear winner of the format war.

There are many myths regarding this technology since it is comparatively new. In this article we will try to clear some of those. The first myth is that internet connection is necessary for supporting this format. It is absolutely untrue. Internet connection is not needed for basic playback of blu-ray supported movies. It will only be needed for extra features like downloading value-added services, web browsing, watching latest movie trailers etc. You will also need internet if you want to authorize the managed copies of those blu-ray movies that are transferred over your home network.

The second myth is regarding down-converting analog outputs. Blu-ray players will not down-convert the signals of analog output unless your video contains ICT or Image Constraint Token. Since most of the movie studios like Sony, Fox, Disney, MGM, Paramount, and Universal do not use this feature so you will not be having much trouble with this.

Another question is regarding supporting mandatory managed copies. Well, the blu-ray format will have mandatory managed copy (MMC) in order to enable customers to make legal and authentic copies of blu-ray movies, which can be easily transferred over the home network.

Since it is a new technology so it is obvious that the first generation products will be somewhat expensive as there will be low production volumes. But manufacturers are planning a wide range of blu-ray products like players, drives, recorders, media, writers, etc and hence product volumes are soon expected to rise giving way to lower prices.

It is a general expectation that blu-ray will soon replace DVDs and most of the big movie studios have hugely supported this format compared to DVDs monopoly. They have already released movies in this format and plan to continue the same. But it is a high probability that DVDs will also not become completely extinct. Chances are that these two formats will co-exist for some time. That is the reason why most top consumer electronics brands like Panasonic, Philips, Sony, Samsung, Sharp, Pioneer and LG have introduced products that can read and write CDs, DVDs as well as blu-ray discs.

How To Get The Best Picture From Your Blu-ray System

If you have just recently purchased a Blu-ray Player or you're thinking of purchasing one, you should realize it may not be as simple to set-up or connect to your TV/Home Entertainment center as you did with your old VCR or DVD player. This is mainly because the Blu-ray player is forcing manufacturers to change the way they are making TVs and AV receivers, causing these manufacturers to play catch up in order to give viewers the full benefits of this new technology.

So in order to get the best performance out of your Blu-ray player, here are some tips or guidelines you will need to correctly set-up your player. Also highlighted are some of the problems you might encounter when adding a blu-ray player to your Home Entertainment system.

Getting The Best Picture From Blu-ray:

Blu-ray players are manufactured to work on any TV that has component inputs, regardless if the TV is High Definition or not. However, having a Blu-ray player connected to a HDTV (High Definition TV) via the HDMI or component video inputs will allow you to get the full HD experience from your Blu-ray Player. So even though connections can be made to any TV with at least composite video inputs, in order to get the high definition Blu-ray resolution(1080/24p) you really need a 1080p HDTV. HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface and is the new standard for transmitting uncompressed digital data from your player to your TV set, just make sure all your devices have HDMI outputs or inputs. HDMI cables can be expensive, try to get a package deal where these are included with the product you're buying.

First, you should know the difference between a HDTV (High Definition TV) and HD Ready TV, you only have to remember one key difference: if your set has a built-in digital tuner it is HDTV, if it doesn't have this built-in tuner, it is HD Ready. So when a HDTV is labeled HD Ready, it means a television set does not include a built-in tuner for receiving over the air signals in high definition through an antenna. To overcome this problem, if you have HD cable, the box provided to you by the service provider will receive the HD signal necessary to give you high definition images on your HDTV. So even if you only have a HD Ready TV you will still have no problems watching Blu-ray high definition movies on it.

Now, having a 720p HDTV is recommended, but a 1080p HDTV would be your best option. This is because all blu-ray movies are stored on the disk in 1080p at 24 frames/second. You will often see this referred to as 1080p/24p. The original film was shot at this rate and the blu-ray format allows you to view the movie as the director wanted it to be seen. You should definitely be aware of older blu-ray players that were not capable of displaying 1080p/24p. These blu-ray players will convert the 1080p/24p signal to 1080p/60p using the '3:2 pulldown' technique. This means one frame is played 3 times and the next is played 2 times and so forth. One frame gets to be on the screen longer than the other causing a slight error in the video signal, commonly called telecine judder, the picture appears to have a slightly jerky movement.

Most of the newest blu-ray players have 1080/24 p output. But not all TVs can support 1080/24p. So feeding your 1080/24p signal into a television that cannot support it will result in the TV converting the incoming signal to 50 or 60Hz. This will also produce the telecine judder or vibration in the picture. Luckily most of the latest LCD and plasma TV set can now easily handle the 1080/24p signal.

To summarize, in order to get the best quality picture you need the following:

- Blu-ray Player with 1080/24p output signal

- Television that can support 1080/24p

- HDMI cable for connection

- For HD Television broadcasts you need HD cable service

This will give you the best cinematic images when watching movies or TV programs in the comfort of your own home. Happy viewing!

And right now, Blu-ray players are the best source to get this resolution, even High Definition television broadcasts cannot compete with the visually stunning and clear images produced with a Blu-ray Player. Of course, Blu-ray Players alone don't give you these superior images, you will also need a High Definition TV set capable of displaying 1080p which will give you the clearest picture possible and this is what you should aim for. However, if you don't have a 1080p High Definition television, all Blu-ray Players have the ability to select the resolution that best suits your HDTV. A High Definition TV with a display of 720p or 1080i will still give you a remarkably clear picture.

High Definition Sound Quality:

The next big feature that draws people to the Blu-ray Player is AUDIO. Dolby Digital and DTS are the common formats you may be familiar with since these are provided on a DVD Player. Blu-ray has these formats plus superior new versions of them. First, there is Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD. They are an improvement over the standard Dolby Digital and DTS since they offer higher bit rates and more efficient compression which gives you better sound quality. And both are capable of 7.1-channel surround sound. Keep in mind, most movies produced today still only go to 5.1-channel surround sound, so if you do not have a 7.1-channel surround sound system, there is no need to go out and purchase one.

Second, is Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, which uses a "lossless" compression codec, which means once it's decoded it is identical to the studio master. Providing you with the best possible sound, matching the movie audio you get in a theater. There is also PCM. This is an uncompressed audio format, which again matches the original studio master.

Not all blu-ray players support the new audio formats. Most can support them, but they are not required to. The three audio formats you will find in every Blu-ray Disc Player is Dolby Digital, DTS, and PCM. Therefore, to get the optimal sound performance, it is wise to choose a Blu-ray Player that has one or more of the following audio formats: Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution and DTS-HD Master Audio.

Dolby Digital and Dolby TrueHD can be decoded internally in most Blu-ray Players. Players internally decoding DTS-HD and DTS-HD Master Audio is rarer but the number is increasing. While decoding internally is great, you do need to know, not all Blu-ray Players that have built-in surround sound decoding have multichannel analog outputs. So a HDMI cable would be needed to take advantage of the Blu-ray Player's internal decoding. If your home theater receiver does not have HDMI inputs, you will need to get a Blu-ray Player with multichannel analog connections.

Having a Blu-ray Player with these new Audio formats is just one side of the story. These new audio formats also need to appear on the Blu-ray movie disc. This is nothing to worry about, because since 2009 almost every blu-ray disc manufactured and released have at least one or more of these lossless formats (Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, and PCM).

Blu-ray Profiles:

Blu-ray disc have all the same bonus features that is on a regular DVD disc. Things like deleted scenes, alternate endings and trailers. But it also has special interactive features different than the DVD disc. Things such as Bonus View (picture-in-picture), online games, access to chat rooms and downloads. Not all Blu-ray DVD Players will support these features. Earlier Blu-ray DVD Players did not have to support any new "bonus features". Three categories, known as Profiles, have been established to distinguish between the different types of Blu-ray DVD Players. Now, any Blu-ray Profile will play a Blu-ray disc but with different Profiles you get different extra features available to you. There are three types of Profiles.

Profile 1.0

Profile 1.0 is very basic with no extra features available. After Nov 27, 2007 all of Blu-ray DVD Players released were required to support Profile 1.1.

Profile 1.1

Profile 1.1 is the mandatory requirement of all Blu-ray DVD Players. Profile 1.1 Blu-ray Players have 256 MB of local storage. They have the picture-in-picture function, mostly refer to as Bonus View. This is used to show a smaller picture within the movie. Mainly used when a director or actor is giving commentary about a particular movie. This movie itself is being displayed in the larger picture. Obviously a secondary video and audio decoders are needed for the smaller picture. Most major studios now have this feature in all their standard Blu-ray releases.

Profile 2.0 (BD-LIVE)

Includes all the features of Profile 1.1 with an increase in local storage to 1 GB. Profile 2.0, which is also know as BD Live, has the ability of an internet connection, usually through an Ethernet port. So it is capable of interactive features when playing a Blu-ray disc. Features such as movie-related games, downloading the latest trailers, chat rooms and other content. Most of the newer models are more likely to be Profile 2.0.

Online Streaming:

Some of the newer Blu-ray Disc Players offer online movie and music streaming from Netflix, Pandora, YouTube, Amazon-On-Demand and others. In order to use this feature you would need subscriptions to these places and a broadband internet connection. Some Blu-ray Players even allow you to add it to your home network, providing access to other digital content stored on your computer.

Final consideration:

The last thing you may want to look for in choosing a Blu-ray player is what other type of media can it play. For example, you're probably used to your DVD player being able to play CD-Rs or CD-RWs. Listening to MP3 or WMA files on your DVD player. Not all Blu-ray Players have these capabilities. Or they may be able to play MP3s on a CD but not on a DVD disc. You would have to look to see if the Blu-ray Disc Player has any of these capabilities.

In summary, here are the Key Points to remember when choosing a Blu-ray disc player:

- Does the Blu-ray Player support Full 1080p Play Back?
- Do you have a HDTV capable of displaying 720p resolution or Higher. (1080p is the best)
- What Audio formats are supported by the Blu-ray Player?
- What Audio Outputs does the Blu-ray Player have?
- How are you connecting the Blu-ray Player to your Home Theater Receiver, via HDMI or multichannel analog connection?
- What Profile does the Blu-ray Player have? (Profile 2 / BD-Live is the best option)
- What type of media and video formats can the Blu-ray Player use? Does it play MP3's? Can it play CD-R/RWs or DVD-R/RWs?
- Does the Blu-ray Player have Online Streaming capability?

Answer all these questions and finding the right Blu-ray DVD Player for you will become a lot easier.

Even if you connect to a TV with a minimum composite video high-definition Blu-Ray resolution (1080/24p) we really need a 1080p HDTV. HDMI is High Definition Multimedia Interface and is a new standard for the transmission of uncompressed digital data from your player to your TV, make sure that all equipment, products, or HDMI inputs. HDMI cables can be expensive, try to have a global agreement with the product you buy.

First you need to know the difference between HDTV (high definition television) and HD-ready TV, you just have to remember, the key difference: If you have a built-in digital tuner HDTV, if you do not have this built-in tuner HD Ready high. Images obtained on the screen, while the other leads to a slight error in the video signal, usually called Telecine Judd, the picture seems to be slightly uneven motion.

Most of the latest Blu-Ray player and the production of 1080-24. But not all TVs can be 1080/24p. Thus, feeding your 1080/24p signal on TV, that does not support that cause the transformation of TV signals to 50 or 60 Hz. It is also Telecine Judd or vibration in the picture. Blu-Ray Profile

Blu-Ray, many of the features that come with a bonus-DVD, such as comments from managers and shelving frames. In Blu-Ray discs specification also includes more interactive features such as BonusView (picture in picture), and several discs with these new opportunities have begun to appear. However, the original party Blu-Ray players are not obliged to extend this functionality. Unlike Blu-Ray players are usually divided into three groups, called "profiles" that determine what their potential.

* Profile 1 Version 1.0 - Profiles Blu-Ray. All Blu-Ray player until 1 November 2007 to conform to this profile.
* Profile 1 Version 1.1 (aka Final Standard Profile) - this adds secondary video and audio decoder for BonusView (picture in picture) support. This can be used for things like Director commentary. The player in the film, the original full form when playing video with comments directed small-screen recording. Actors in this profile is also 256 MB of local storage of audio / video and title updates. This can be done in the player or on a removable memory card or USB-drive.
* Profile 2 (also known as BD-Live) - contains all the functions profile 1 version 1.1, but increases the capacity of 1 GB. Actors in this profile as an Internet connection. This allows the player directly to the Internet to access bonus material on some movies on Blu-Ray. Some movie studios to use this opportunity also for things like online games and chat.

If you have a profile 1 version 1.0 players (all players prior to November 1, 2007) reported that the upgrade to version 1.1 of these players, because they do not have the necessary hardware to decode the secondary audio and video (Sony PlayStation 3 is an exception) . The good news is that movies with the new version 1.1 features even in the 1.0 version of the actors - who simply do not have access to BonusView features. In addition, only about half of all currently available players support BD-Live. Profile 1, while version 1.1 is the new standard profile 2.0, will probably remain so.
Other considerations

Blu-Ray players do not have spare capacity, it can be used with a DVD player. For example, some early models can not play CDs. While all of our current models are not always able to play home burned CD-R or CD-RW. The same is true for recording DVD.

Also, be aware that not all Blu-Ray CD players can play with the MP3 and WMA files. For those who, some players are MP3 and WMAs on CD, but not DVD, but for others it is vice versa. JPEG, is not compatible with Blu-Ray player. So, if you want to enjoy music in MP3 or WMA, and JPEG images on the screen, you will find that a player has such an opportunity.

Earth Day is still the Court (2008)

Given the constant flow of completely forgettable and the mediocre remakes of classic films, it is not surprising that people do not want to see another movie again a nation which for decades. Robert Wise in 1951, the classic science fiction film on the story by Harry Bates, the film was that all the love the respect and admiration. In the remake the movie just can not, right? Well, very frank with you, I was a little surprised that an updated version of the film.

Visit the Earth 70 years ago in the DNA, the alien ship is aimed directly at Earth. He is mistaken for meteor to the ground to make the world looks surprising that the ship landed in New York in Central Park, but she quickly panic surprising then that the media for sensationalism, and the unconscious paranoid military regime of open meetings as a threat, the first step in a hostile invasion.
One of the alien, Klaatu, was trying to mankind, and the soldiers fired on the spot. Their protector, a 100-foot robot, again, their lives and Klaatu in a military prison for interrogation.
Nevertheless, it has a mission of freedom and Klaatu merely deprived of the questions in their own hands. Much higher than the rest of humanity and free will of the people, seeing their way of life. Quick noted that the human race is saved. Based in their brutal and determined to destroy the planet of origin, Klaatu in the plan, the offender in the context of the Earth. It is time to reload - not people.

As I said in my opening remarks that the film was a surprise, it is important that this statement in the right perspective. The film has serious flaws, and not as one big movie, in any form, but at least it is good in general, to serve up to 100 minutes of mindless entertainment. When will the movie, of course, the prerogative to discuss how many visitors the feeling that this issue would be more interesting, the way to agreement on the 1951 Robert Wise film was at that time.

On the way we looked at, the film was a big mistake - bad writing. Current thinking is rooted in superficial and fleeting, the script was so stupid as those who are trying to criticize the story that the writer - and with it, the director - he has never been the central message about the history of cardiovascular disease and instead have chosen in favor of a successful approach forgettable.

The main drawback of the script and the characters are stereotypes izreshechennye not enough parts. While I am certainly not a friend of military action - I am pacifist at heart - I was also shaken my head, as the military was represented here. Completely over top, then the whole world can see in this film is uniform as it is with the idiot in mind, to blow everything on its way to Kingdom Come. As we went up in flames during the Bush administration, I also believe that this is an exact idea of the distance to the profession. Is it a Christian film, Catholics had joined the forces with weapons in such unreflected grievances. The same applies to the submission of the State, and almost everyone else in the film, until the child is not Jacob, whose relevance to the adult simply intolerable and absolutely idiotic represents children in the current planning, as in the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon.
All this brings us to the film, the next big problem with the above issues, the lack of likability of characters. The fact is that nature is an excellent whole movie, the story of the heroine of Helen Benson. With so few and poorly defined, even the size of the actors, like Jennifer Connelly, Kathy Bates, and completely lost, do not squeeze, and the personality or depth of the characters. Keanu Reeves' flat delivery of lines may be suitable for the character, as such, but the complete absence of body language - what I suspect was from the director to do more "alien" - and ultimately, this descriptor, they prefer to see it wind in bits of our destiny. Thus, in the end you ask why anyone in a movie, with the result that the film simply did not do as it should be. Now all that compared to the 1951 film by Robert Wise, years, and it is easy to understand how people are disappointed by this film.

On the other hand, the film does not propose to reduce the amount of popcorn. With great photographs, great shots of the distant looming over Manhattan, big explosions, cool special effects and the destruction of a large 100-foot robot from outer space with a laser beam shooting from her eyes, the ability to heal and to destroy the same type and, I must admit that part of I very much want to go.

In the new movie produced mostly in the digital domain, it is not surprising that the transfer of high-resolution 1080p in the Blu-Ray disc is great. And so sharp detail than this film, which tries to screen queen. Whether it's subtle nuances and shades of black, or bold and vibrant color, transfer accurately reproduces each of them with incredible detail and vivid, so there is sure to get the maximum return on their investment.

This, of course, also for the sound, which is represented in the form of 5.1 DTS-HD Master audio track. Rock solid and strong, directional effects phenomenal, and to create an aggressive sound that envelops the viewer gifts. With a big bass, track has a lot of substance, while the upper part of the spectrum equally well, without any hint of distortion. Dialogues are well integrated and, in spite of its aggressiveness, not drowned in the sound effects and music.

Arriving as a 3-disc Blu-Ray to determine the release of some bonus material, especially on Blu-Ray copy of Robert Wise in 1951, the original film in a separate hard drive. However, release also contains a commentary track screenwriter David Scarpa, who is totally ignorant or totally irreconcilable at the level of nonsense, the sky above us. In any case, it's just on the wrong path, and then to other commodities, such as deleted scenes and a lot of short films on various aspects of this film. They are a typical run the mill without any significant promotion of shorts-style show, so if you do not have all that much of the movie, you can go without fear of something important. The release contains a photo gallery and a digital copy of the movie.

Depending on what you would expect, in the remake "The Day the Earth stopped" can be disappointing or fun to drive. Your mileage may vary, no doubt. I expect that the absolute worst case, and came to enjoy the exciting feeling of Hollywood science fiction. Forgettable, but not at the bottom of the barrel, I was ready to see. Sometimes you have to go to the cinema, I think.

Changeling Blu-Ray Review

Directed by: Clint Istvud and Golden Globe nominated With Angelina Jolie as Christine Collins, Changeling is the real story about the mother who loses her child through the injustice and struggling and suffering in such a way that no one should. Appears in the film in Blu-Ray Hi-Def from Universal Studios Home Entertainment on February 17.

In Los Angeles, 1928, police corruption, and women are often seen below, if they are on the road. Christine Collins was on the street, just in connection with the death of his son, Walter, and refuse to accept the lesser of two evils, a police detective JJ Jones (Jeffrey Donovan) is trying to present. Implementing an error was made, Detective Jones did not want to confound of multiple errors. In contrast, tries to convince Christine that this is simply not to recognize their child after such a long time. When she refuses to comply, based on the executive board of psychology

Nevertheless, worried about their missing son, Christine soon the issue of unscrupulous psychiatrist whim. They realized that they are not the only woman in the room, which had been unjustly imprisoned. All the time, Christine, on the basis of support from the local priest (John Malkovich), who used his department radio and the police and politicians.

In short, another thing is that you can answer, where the real Walter Collins is Ido. The boy and the boy because of the deportation back to Canada. While occurring, overall detective story with some of the things that he and his cousin at his ranch. This leads to a better understanding of search and Walter public protests against the LAPD. Kristina friends fight for their freedom and, in the opinion of a corrupt legal system to learn the truth about Walter.

Changeling is a fascinating, attractive, dramatic and deeply disturbing portrait of the real facts. Very highly recommended. Modern lesson of history and education. As noted at the end of the movie, the name of the district in which the described events took place was changed to the dark clouds over the city. Angelina is a lot of awards for his role. It is solid, but not a big fan of Jolie and her game to find a loving mother and persistent little hard to understand. John Malkovich is impressive, as a courageous priest, but comforting. Clint Istvud is one of the best director in Hollywood today. He knows how to tell a story, to be precise, dramatic and effective.

The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight arrives with tremendous hype (best superhero movie ever? posthumous Oscar for Heath Ledger?), and incredibly, it lives up to all of it. But calling it the best superhero movie ever seems like faint praise, since part of what makes the movie great--in addition to pitch-perfect casting, outstanding writing, and a compelling vision--is that it bypasses the normal fantasy element of the superhero genre and makes it all terrifyingly real. Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is Gotham City's new district attorney, charged with cleaning up the crime rings that have paralyzed the city. He enters an uneasy alliance with the young police lieutenant, Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), and Batman (Christian Bale), the caped vigilante who seems to trust only Gordon--and whom only Gordon seems to trust. They make progress until a psychotic and deadly new player enters the game: the Joker (Heath Ledger), who offers the crime bosses a solution--kill the Batman. Further complicating matters is that Dent is now dating Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, after Katie Holmes turned down the chance to reprise her role), the longtime love of Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne.

In his last completed role before his tragic death, Ledger is fantastic as the Joker, a volcanic, truly frightening force of evil. And he sets the tone of the movie: the world is a dark, dangerous place where there are no easy choices. Eckhart and Oldman also shine, but as good as Bale is, his character turns out rather bland in comparison (not uncommon for heroes facing more colorful villains). Director-cowriter Christopher Nolan (Memento) follows his critically acclaimed Batman Begins with an even better sequel that sets itself apart from notable superhero movies like Spider-Man 2 and Iron Man because of its sheer emotional impact and striking sense of realism--there are no suspension-of-disbelief superpowers here. At 152 minutes, it's a shade too long, and it's much too intense for kids. But for most movie fans--and not just superhero fans--The Dark Knight is a film for the ages. --David Horiuchi

Venture Brothers

This last entire Venture Brothers season was a surprise to me because I had heard there was going to be no third season. Then, when these episodes aired, it took the entire concept to a new level. Stories were deeper, characters gained more sublety, and everything was funnier. The only downer was that us Cartoon Network customers who subscribed to the "HD" channel were punished by seeing the letterbox bars on the top and bottom while the image contained within was s-t-e-t-c-h-e-d and distorted. I even erased the last few episodes on my DVR because it was so hard to watch.
Now, with this Blu-Ray coming out, I can see the episodes as they were meant to be seen for the first time!

Also, the cover art, a tribute/parody of the 70's Atari 2600 cartridge boxes, is a hoot as well. Go Team Venture!
